Course Content

This course can be attended by both Operatives and Supervisors looking to gain a Street Works (SWQR) Card to work on the public highways. Both Operatives & Supervisors will complete the following units, with the Supervisors monitoring the Operatives in the practical portions of the course.

• Location of underground apparatus.

• Signing, lighting and guarding.

• Excavation in the highway.

• Reinstatement of compaction and backfill materials.

• Reinstatement of sub-base and road base non-bituminous materials.

• Reinstatement of cold-lay bituminous materials.

• Reinstatement of hot-lay bituminous materials.

• Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways.

During the Street Works Refresher course, Operatives must complete 8 Units to gain a full SWQR Card while Supervisor must complete 7 units to gain the full SWQR card. There are 20 questions per assessment for both Operatives & Supervisors.The pass mark for all assessments is 80%.

At the end of the Streetworks Refresher day there will be an opportunity for delegates to re-sit any ‘not achieved units’ twice if they fail to gain the required pass mark on their first attempt.

If you do not have a valid Street Works card, or if it has been over 5 years since your card has expired, you will be required to complete the 5 Day Initial Street Works course. Book this now!

  • The candidate will be able to interpret plans and confirm that they correspond with the work site.
  • The candidate will be able to identify different underground utilities apparatus and highways services that are encountered during excavation and understand the hazards, risks and consequences of damaging them.
  • The candidate must be able to select, prepare and use pipe and cable location equipment (CAT & Genny) to identify and mark the location of underground utilities apparatus and highways services.
